簡介:
Sarah, Plain and Tall is the story of a loving family who live at a farm with a big prairie. Anna, the narrator, is about twelve years old and her brother, Caleb, is several years younger. The two children lost their mother, who died of giving birth to Caleb on the next day. One day, Papa, Jacob put an advertisement on the newspaper for a wife, which stunned the children.
A woman named Sarah, who lives in Maine, is looking for a new change in her life. She answered the notice that Jacob posted, and decided to stay with this family for one month. In the end she is able to make a difference for this struggling family and finds that she needs them as much as they need her.
Sarah is introduced so many things which are different for her that Anna and Caleb worry that perhaps she will soon long for the sea and her family she has left behind. This worry got even stronger when they saw Sarah decide to learn to drive the carriage alone. They thought that she was going back to her hometown. Finally they knew that Sarah just wanted to bring something back from the town and are happy to see that Sarah is going to marry to their dad formally.
